Uralita Yesos & Cogysa

Uralita Yesos was created in 1989 from the integration of Cogysa, the leading plasters manufacturer for over a century in Catalonia, into the Uralita Group.  From the beginning, Uralita Yesos pursued an expansionist strategy which included the acquisition and integration of major manufacturers such as Levantina Yesos and Yesos Pamplona.

In 1998 Uralita Yesos inaugurated a new plasters manufacturing plant in Valdemoro (Madrid), this move further consolidated its market position.  During the same year, Uralita Yesos was merged into Yesos Ibéricos, S.A.

2005 was the year in which the Uralita Yesos brand was replaced by a new name, Algíss.  The objective of this move was to provide a solid brand image with well defined values.

The name Algíss is derived from a hispano-arabic word signifying plaster of gypsum rock.  The brand logo incorporated the Rose of the Desert, a crystalline form of gypsum caused by the evaporation and desiccation of salt water.  The form of the desert rose also coincides with the form of perlite as seen through a microscope.  Perlite is the mineral which is used in order to make lightweight plasters.

Algíss is focused on the manufacture and sale of plaster and casting plaster, it offers a wide range of products and services from it’s traditional manual plasters to more sophisticated value added products such as lightweight projection plasters and the use of mobile silos.
